In addition to academic enrichment, Ten Centuries of Women Playwrights:
- Offers participation in a

collaborative project, where
group success is dependent on each member’s commitment, creating an environment where learning, teamwork and creative expression are valued;
- Allows students to develop and hone skills that can extend into the future workplace;
- Introduces teachers to alternative, interdisciplinary methods of instruction in the classroom;
- Gives students an appreciation for the creative contributions of women throughout history; and
- Provides students—our future audiences—with a comprehensive understanding and appreciation of the elements of theater, including the opportunity to attend free-of-charge special student matinees of Women’s Project’s mainstage productions, such as the students featured in the photo above at a performance of Saviana Stanescu's Aliens With Extraordinary Skills.
Women’s Project also hosts Professional Development Workshops for classroom teachers and teaching artists. These workshops provide participants with an opportunity to expand their knowledge of the rich canon of women-authored plays, and enriches their teaching methods in accordance with the NYC Department of Education’s “Blueprint for Theater Arts” curriculum.
As part of WP’s Professional Development program, classroom teachers, parents, and educators from schools and universities throughout NYC are invited to Educators Nights at the Julia Miles Theater. At these special performances of WP’s mainstage shows, the educators view and discuss the shows that their students will attend later in the residency. The evening—offered free-of-charge to Teaching Artists and NYC School Teachers—allows the WP Staff to prepare more customized study guides for the students, and provides a forum for educators to exchange ideas about the strategic implementation of the arts in the classroom.
